Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data the Buddy Talk app collects, why it collects it, and how you can delete it. The app is published by Zoran Taskovic, Belgrade, Serbia. Contact for any privacy questions: buddy-talk-support@ztek.app.

What data we collect

• Account data. When you sign in with a Google or Apple account, we receive your email address, name and the account identifier from that service. We never see your Google or Apple password. Some accounts, such as the one for app review, sign in with a username and password instead: for those we store the username and name, and the password only in hashed form, so not even we know it.
• Voice. While you talk, audio from the microphone is streamed in real time so Buddy can answer. We don't store audio recordings. The microphone is on only while a conversation is running: from the moment the conversation opens until you end it (the End button in the app, or “End conversation” in the notification), sign out or close the app. The conversation keeps running when you lock the screen or switch to another app, so you can keep talking; on Android a “Voice session active” notification is shown the whole time. While you are typing instead of talking, the microphone is off.
• Conversation transcript. We store a transcript of what you say or type and what Buddy replies. This is how you see your conversation history in the app.
• Notes about you. At the end of a longer conversation, a short summary is created: your name, your gender (so Buddy addresses you correctly), language, how you like to be spoken to, and what you have said about yourself, such as your work, family or what you like. Buddy uses it to remember you in the next conversation. We also remember the language you speak.
• Subscription. From Google Play we receive a purchase token, the subscription status and the billing period dates. We never receive payment details (card number and the like).
• Usage. For each reply we record the technical amount of processing, so we can track the monthly usage limit.
• Technical data. The server keeps technical logs without the content of your conversations, and deletes them after 14 days.
• Sensitive data. Please don't share information about your health, religion, political views or similar sensitive matters. If you do mention them, they become part of the conversation transcript and notes, and you can delete them together with your account.

Why we use it

Only to make the app work: to answer what you say, show your history, remember you between conversations and check whether your subscription is active. We don't sell data, don't show ads and don't use data to track you across other apps.

Legal basis

We process your data because it is necessary to provide the service you signed up for with your subscription: the conversation, your history, the notes Buddy uses to remember you, and checking your subscription. We keep technical server logs to keep the service running and secure, on the basis of our legitimate interest.

Who we share data with

• OpenAI processes the voice and text of conversations to generate Buddy's replies, as well as summaries and language detection. Under OpenAI's API policies, this data is not used to train their models. OpenAI processes data in the United States; the transfer is based on standard contractual clauses, which are part of our data processing agreement with OpenAI. OpenAI may keep data sent through its API for up to 30 days to detect abuse, and then deletes it.
• Google (Google Play and Google Sign-In) and Apple (Sign in with Apple) handle sign-in and subscriptions, under their own privacy policies.
• The servers running the app and the database are located in Finland (EU), with Hetzner Online GmbH.

How long we keep data

We keep all your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account in the app, it is deleted immediately and permanently. When you request deletion by email, we delete it within 30 days.

Deleting your account and data

In the app: Account → Delete account. Your account, conversation history, notes, saved language, subscription records and usage data are deleted immediately and cannot be restored.

Without the app: send an email to buddy-talk-support@ztek.app saying you want your account deleted, and include your username or, if you signed in with Google or Apple, the email address of that account. Before deleting it, we may ask you to confirm that the account is yours. We will delete the same data within 30 days.

You cancel your subscription separately, in Google Play, because we can't cancel it for you. Deleting your account does not cancel it.

Your rights

You have the right to access the data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to object to its processing. Send your request to buddy-talk-support@ztek.app; we respond within 30 days. You also have the right to file a complaint with a data protection authority. In Serbia, that is the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection; if you live in the EU, you can also complain to the authority in your country.

Children

Buddy Talk is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. We will let you know about important changes in the app.
